Central Chinese Television CCTV HQ
One of the most impressive buildings in “New China” is the Central Chinese Television CCTV Headquarters. This building was so progressive it broke Beijing’s building codes and needed special approval from a review panel. This building literally defies gravity. The effect is a building with an open façade in the center. This is achieved by two leaning towers and a system of structural tubes that distribute the weight. The architect that designed this building is Rem Koolhaas. The building stands 234 meters tall and will have 51 floors. Height is not really what is impressive about this building especially when the tower is a separate building entirely.
